Nigerian Bankers salary structure (Latest Update!)

Nigerian-banking-structure

One of the reasons I find so much predilection in the banking occupation in Nigeria is because of the low restriction when it comes to degree qualification for entry. Every degree holder especially those with presentable grades can work in the bank.

However, one would normally ask if the salary offered to bankers in Nigeria commensurate the stress involved. It is often said that the banking job is extremely stressful and that bank workers or staff come late at night at almost every working days. This is somewhat the reason why some Nigerian husbands would disillusion the banking career to their wives.

It is pertinent to be aware of the disparity or inequality of bankers’ salary in Nigeria resulting from different banks we have in Nigeria, different level of experience, different position of duty dispensation and so on.

However, these disparities or indifference are not much in Nigerian banking system.

Bankers’ salary in different banks of Nigeria

There are normally two kinds of workers in the banks and they are;

Contract staffs

Permanent staffs

Contract staffs

 This staff does not have any permanent dealings with the bank. That is, contract staffs come and go depending on the time agreed to terminate the contract. Contract staffs are usually paid within the range of N35 000- N100 000 in any banks. But on rare cases, they are paid higher. An increase in the salary pay of a contract staff depends on the load of the task performed. For instance, contract staff which may sign up an agreement with a Nigerian bank to develop a functional application software that the bank would use in a long run cannot be paid as low as N100 000.

Permanent staff

 Permanent staffs are staffs that have agreed to work with the banks for a very long time. Most times, the factor that can terminate their agreement between them and the bank is situations that involve fraud or theft, another is age.

This article would make use of some of the banks found in Nigeria as a case study to reveal the Nigerian bankers’ salary structure

Conclusion

Bankers in Nigeria are paid really high especially at a higher position. Positions ranging from the senior manger to the MD/CEO are associated with eminently high emoluments. Asides, these high emoluments or salary, occupiers of these positions (senior mangers-MD/CEO) are given preferential treatments such as allocation of cars, payment of children school fees and other allowances.

However, to attain such high position in any bank in Nigeria is extremely difficult because time or years of experience and qualification is a major factor of promotion in these Nigerian banks.
